What’s it like to work with us?

A collaborative global team

FOS amplifies the collective impact of the global conservation community by
empowering practitioners to be more effective and efficient in their efforts. Threats to biodiversity and natural resources are increasingly urgent and complex. And while the conservation community is working tirelessly, so far it’s not enough. In order to secure the future of our planet, we need everyone to have a voice and an opportunity to take action.

Research shows that diversity promotes innovation and FOS recognizes that to support the conservation community most effectively, we must start by examining our own practices. FOS undertook an organizational culture assessment to better understand how we can support and actively engage diverse identities among us. The results of the assessment and further learning on DEIJ topics are helping us to foster a better working environment for current and future staff. A welcoming and safer workspace for FOS staff is imperative to ensure we inclusively engage the diverse communities working hard to protect our planet.

We recognize the importance of addressing DEIJ internally, as well as sharing our experience and learning with other conservation organizations seeking to improve their practices and increase their impact. We see our DEIJ roadmap as the first step in a journey toward integrating DEIJ principles into the Conservation Standards and continuing to support teams in holistic efforts to improve conservation impact.
