Monitoring Wildlife Populations for Management

This manual is one of eight modules developed by the Wildlife Conservation Society and the American Museum of Natural History for training protected area staff in Laos.  The manual draws off of the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation and provides basic principles for designing monitoring strategies for measuring change in conservation targets, with an emphasis on wildlife species and populations. It highlights common pitfalls and potential sources of error in the design and interpretation of wildlife monitoring data, and provides recommendations for addressing these issues directly, using examples from different survey techniques in different contexts.
