In 2008 and 2009, FOS facilitated an online training course in adaptive management and Miradi for 30 Audubon staff representing nine projects of varying scale across the United States. Each project faced a unique set of challenges and had its own strategies to address those challenges. The opportunity to go through this training together, however, allowed project teams to learn about one another’s work, provide feedback, and learn from one another. In addition, it allowed FOS to use innovative web-based tools, small-group discussions, and other tools to encourage a meaningful distance learning experience. The training also was designed to build the capacity of 10 Audubon staff “coaches” who would be positioned to help roll out a similar type of planning and adaptive management process throughout the Audubon Society.
